Dercum's disease, which is also known as Anders' syndrome and Adiposis Dolorosa, is a rare condition characterized by the presence of painful fatty lipomas. This condition typically affects post-menopausal, obese, middle-aged women.

The exact cause of Dercum's disease is unknown. In most cases, the condition appears spontaneously for no apparent reason.
The most distinct characteristic of Dercum's disease is the slow formation of multiple, painful growths that consist of fatty tissues. The pain from these lipomas may come and go. It may last for hours and in some cases, may worsen with movement.

About Ehlers Danlos Syndrome

Ehlers Danlos Syndrome refers to a group of disorders that affect the connective tissues. The classical signs and symptoms of the condition include:

Stretchy skin
A person with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome usually has stretchy skin. This has something to do with weakened connective tissue, allowing the skin to stretch more than the usual.

Fragile skin
The skin of someone with this syndrome is often damaged. It doesn't heal well and if stitches are done, they will just tear out and leave a gaping scar.

Overly flexible joints
This is again has something to do with weakened connective tissues. The joints may move far past the normal range of motion, which make them more prone to dislocations and pain.

What does Dercum's Disease and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome have in common?

Dercum's Disease and Ehlers Danlos Syndrome are both debilitating conditions, affecting one's overall life quality. These diseases don't have a cure yet but there are therapies to help alleviate the symptoms.

The use of compression garments also seems to help in managing the pain associated with both diseases. Patients often experience better results when it's used in conjunction with physical therapy.
